Neeb will be the 14th player ever at the top of the Starcraft 2 World Ranking in October – and just the fourth foreigner.
[neeb] victory at WCS Montreal yesterday will make him the leader of the Starcraft 2 World Ranking next month. The 19-year-old gains 2,372 points for the win. Together with the 237 points he gains from winning the SEA Masters Cup 100 a few days ago, Neeb improves to about 16,900 ranking points.
Defending leader [byun] however will drop to 16,500 points as of now. The Korean loses a lot of points that he gained in September 2016 next month. His fifth place in the current GSL season is not enough to compensate these losses.
Neeb will be the fourth foreigner to lead the World Ranking
If nothing surprising happens in the rest of the month, Neeb will become the 14th leader of the World Ranking. A few months ahead of his 20th birthday he will also be the fifth youngest to ever claim the throne. This list is up to now lead by [life] who was just 18 years and 79 days old when he reached rank 1 in April 2015. [parting] (18yrs, 161 days), [stephano] (19yrs, 141 days) and [taeja] (19yrs, 180 days) were also younger than Neeb is.
After Stephano, [nerchio] and [snute], Neeb is also just the fourth foreigner to lead the Starcraft 2 World Ranking. Nerchio held this rank in November 2016, Snute one month before that. Stephano was at the top in January 2013 at last.
Byun misses a new record
Byun on the other hand misses a record. He could have become the first player to lead the World Ranking for eleven months in a row. Now he rests at ten months and shares the record for the longest run at the top with PartinG. Byun climbed to the throne in December 2016 after winning the WCS Global Finals. He extended his lead in the same month by winning the World Cyber Arena as well.
Neeb is the back-to-back-champion of WCS right now. He won in Montreal just as he did in Jonköpping in Sweden in June and in Austin in April. It’s the three most prestigious and point-worthy titles he has ever claimed in his career.
