Starcraft 2 World Ranking May 2014

Starcraft 2 World Ranking May now includes team leagues

Important change for Starcraft 2 World Ranking: From now on it also includes team leagues. That has consequences for the Ranking itself as Lee ‚INnoVation‘ Shin Hyung is the new leader. He profits from his good performances at the Proleague 2012-13 playoffs and the GSTL 2 last year. However, someone else made the most impressive jump this month.

Starcraft 2 World Ranking May 2014In the newly calculated ranking, [innovation] leads since December 2013 – it’s his sixth month in a row on the top-position now. But IEM world champion [sos] and third-placed [polt] are close to his heels. The biggest jump in the Top10 was done by [mc] who gained six ranks by winning WCS Europe and is now on #6. On the other hand, [hero] and [maru] dropped out of the Top10 – not because they played bad, but because other players passed them.

WCS shape the World Ranking

[playerbox_zest]The results of all WCS regions shape the May Ranking: American WCS champion [hyun] for example rose from #14 to #10, his runner-up [oz] from #32 to #22. But the biggest jump was done by [zest] of course: The korean won GSL Code S (aka WCS Korea) and the GSL Global Championship to boost him up 111 ranks to #23. Some more players that profit from their WCS performance are [arthur] (#5 WCS America, +36 ranks), [bbyong] (#9 GSL Code S, +25 ranks), [puck] (#9 WCS America, +17 ranks) and [bling] (#13 WCS Europe, +23 ranks).

Lower ranked players like [neeb] (+#9 WCS America, +62 ranks), [toodming] (#9 WCS America, +53 ranks) and [lilbow] (#17 WCS Europe, +32 ranks) also benefited from WCS.

Besides WCS, [impact] of course made a huge leap forward by being the runner-up of Dreamhack Bukarest. The young Korean is now on #130, up 186 ranks. Proleague-star [billowy] rose 221 ranks up and is now on #186.

Down it goes for less active players

While some go up, some have to go down: The biggest losers this month include inactive [naniwa] (-8), [fantasy] (-19) and [leenock] (-27). The latter suffer from the fact that their good results of April 2013 don’t count for the ranking anymore.

More special rankings: Who’s hot in the past 3 months?

As usual the World Ranking gives you an overview of the players performances of the past 12 months. Since this is a long period that includes 1.176 players from 58 countries, there are some more specialized top-rankings that show some aspects of the ranking and help you figure out who did something special this month – for example you can see the best players of the past 3 months instead of 12.

You said teamleagues are included now?

As mentioned before team league are for the first time part of the World Ranking. They are calculated in the same way as individual tournaments. Depending on the prize money of the league, the league is categorised. Player rankings are made out of how many points they scored in the league (meaning that a Bo3 counts as one win or loss) and ranked according to wins descending and then losses ascending. The best player of this individual ranking is awarded with the points for #1 in the respective category and so on.
