The Starleague qualifiers yesterday were without a doubt the hardest qualifier of the year. 137 players attended the tournament in Seoul yesterday, 108 had to go home afterwards. Amongst these were the four best players in the world right now and some more famous…
[bomber] for example left the stage after just one match. He lost to [dynamite], a completely unknown player at bigger tournaments until now who also defeated [first] before he was taken out by [stats] and [byul].
The qualifiers were divided into 14 groups of nine to ten players who fought in a double-elimination-tournament each with the two best players advancing to the next stage of the Starleague.
[bomber]s runner-ups in the World Ranking were no more successful than him: [hyun] beat [heart] and [bunny] but then lost to [flash] and [dream]. [mma] failed in the first round against [terror] and [zest] lost to [rogue] and [leenock] after defeating the latter in an earlier round.
[mc] added to this list, who lost to [dark2] and [soulkey] this makes five out of the best ten players dropping out in the qualifiers. Except for [stardust] who didn’t attend the tournament all other players from the top ten will play in the Starleague challenger stage: [life] got invited while [taeja], [san] and [hero] won their groups in the qualifiers.
The list of more famous players who dropped out in the qualifiers is seemingly endless, so here’s just a quick overview:
- [soo] lost to [bbyong] and [san]
- [sos] lost to [gumiho] and [curious]
- [jjakji] lost to [dear] and [yonghwa]
- [rain (by.sun)] lost to [patience] and [hero2]
- [pigbaby] lost to [center]
- [nestea] lost to [yonghwa] – it’s his birthday today by the way
- [kangho] lost to [dream]
