OG may have won the Kiev Major but Newbee remains the best team in the world in our updated Dota 2 World Ranking.
China Newbee defends the top spot in the Dota 2 World Ranking in May despite a once again weak major. Even though the chinese team left Kiev as ninth, they gathered a lot of points in asian based tournaments. Newbee won the Dota 2 Professional League Season 3 and was third at the Dota 2 Asia Championships.
Invictus Gaming is the winner of this months Dota 2 World Ranking
This lets them stay just an inch above Olympics OG. The mixed team around Denmark BigDaddy won their fourth major in Kiev. A few weeks ago the team had lost the grand final of the DAC against China Invictus Gaming, still adding to their marvellous performance this month. OG ist just a few hundred points shy of retaking the lead that they lost to Newbee in November.
Both teams lead the Dota 2 World Ranking by a significant margin. Since China Wings Gaming fired its team, United-States Evil Geniuses and Netherlands Team Liquid are their closest predators. Maybe it will be China Invictus Gaming though in the upcoming months. The Chinese won the DAC in April and were third in Kiev. The rise to World Rank 6 this month which is their best position for almost two years. Invictus has passed its sister team China iG.Vitality and comes off weak performances at the Boston Major (25.) and ESL One Genting (21.).
A strong month for asian teams
The Kiev Major, DAC and the Dota 2 Pro League have shaped this months ranking – and it’s mostly asian teams who benefited from these tournaments. Five out of the ten best teams of the month are chinese, two more are from the SEA-region. Singapore Team Faceless improved to World Rank 33 with their fifth place at the Kiev Major and a seventh at DAC. Malaysia WarriorsGaming.Unity even rises to World Rank 26. The team missed out on the Major and was only 13th at DAC but won the Infinity Sky League and the SEA Kappa Invitational. WG.Unity has a flawless record: They attended nine tournament finals – and won all of them.
Kievs runner-up Russia Virtus.pro couldn’t capitalize that much from their strong performance in front of their home crowd. Since good performances of April 2016 were erased for VP, they only gained a few points net. But it was enough to boost them back into the Top10 of the Dota 2 World Ranking. They had lost their spot among the ten best teams last July.
