Exactly one year after their first appearance in the Dota 2 Team World Ranking, Team Secret has taken the lead. By winning the MLG World Finals, Puppey and his teammates passed Evil Geniuses by far – and the Nanyang Championships are not even included yet.
Three weeks before the Frankfurt Major, [team secret] is at the peak: They just won both MLG World Finals and Nanyang Championships and thus stormed to the pole position of the Dota 2 Team World Ranking in November. They leave [evil geniuses] almost 9,000 points behind – which is equivalent to one and a half wins at a major tournament like the Frankfurt Major. It’s also one of the quickest success stories in Dota 2: November 2014 was the first time that Team Secret even appeared in the World Ranking as 23th.
Evil Geniuses and Vici Gaming drop dramatically
Evil Geniuses on the other hand didn’t drop just because they lost the MLG-finals to Team Secret. They’d much rather dropped because of their performance at ESL One New York. One might argue that a 5th place isn’t that bad, but it was EGs worst result at a global tournament with six figure prize money since December 2014 (!) when they finished the XMG Captains Draft 2.0 as 5th. Still, the TI5-winners are way ahead of their persecutors – because another team had it even worse.
[vici gaming] lost three ranks from 3 to 6 in this months ranking, which is their worst position in the World Ranking since September 2014. Vici was only 13th at ESL One New York, the only tournament they played in October (Nanyang finished at November 1st and thus counts for the December ranking). I am not kidding you, this was the worst performance of VG at a global tournament ever. They even got passed by [lgd gaming] who are now third in the Dota 2 Team World Ranking ahead of the best european teams [virtus.pro] and [team empire].
Vega Squadron and Ninjas in Pyjamas on the rise
Let’s talk about Europe a little more: [ninjas in pyjamas] reach another peak and moves into the top10 for the first time in their history. The [vega squadron], surprising winners of ESL One New York, rise to rank 12. The shadowy side is represented by [natus vincere] and [alliance]. The former organisation fired its team in October just to resign [dendi] and [sonneiko] a few days later, while the Swedish team had horrible results at ESL One New York (21th) and MLG World Finals (19th) but will still play five global tournaments including the Frankfurt Major until the end of the year.
The old teams will be challenged further in the near future by teams that just formed in the Internationals aftermatch and who are slowly climbing the tops of the world ranking now: [(monkey) business] sith on rank 57 for now, the [cis rejects] debut at rank 78 this month, [digitalchaos] is 81th and the [monkey freedom fighters] are 118th. [team liquid] has yet to wait another month until they appear in the ranking.
