Clement ‚Puppey‘ Ivanov remains the best Dota player in the world, even though his Team Secret is struggling. But the upcoming Shanghai Major may change the Dota 2 Player World Ranking significantly.
Puppey remains on the top of the Dota 2 Player World Ranking for the fifth month in an row. The gap to his chasers is narrowing though, because Puppeys Team Secret has been struggling recently. They missed all major finals since the Frankfurt Major while even disappointing deeply at The Summit 4 (#30) and the World Cyber Arena (#9).
Evil Geniuses are on Puppeys heels
The closest chasers of Puppey are the players of Evil Geniuses: Fear, ppd, UNiVeRsE and Suma1L share the second place while Arteezy and subsitute zai are tied for the sixth rank. They all had a good month: EG was runner-up at both Star Ladder Star Series Season 13 and the MarsTV Dota League Winter. Which is unfortunate, but also good.
The outsiders of the Top10
Just two players among the ten best Dota players in the world do not belong to either Secret or EG. These are s4 from Alliance on rank 8 and KuroKy from Team Liquid on rank 8. Also remarkable: Xiao8 from LGD Gaming jumped to rank 12 this month, which is his best World Rank since September 2013!
Naturally [ehome.cn]s players also rose much after winning two major tournaments in January. LaNm is the best of them now on rank 31, followed by Cty on rank 33, old chicken on rank 35 and KaKa on rank 40. Eleven is 47th. They all jumped more thank 30 ranks upwards. Some other players behind them improved much more though.
What will the upcoming Shanghai Major change?
Less than four weeks ahead, 16 teams and 80 players will fight for 3 million dollar at the Shanghai Major. Looking at the current shape of the participating teams it looks like Evil Geniuses, defendig-champion OG, Team Liquid and chinese [ehome.cn] will play an important role at the global tournament. This will effect the World Ranking too. So maybe we’ll see some changes at the top and players like KuroKy, BigDaddy, LaNm advancing even more.
