OG has won the Frankfurt Major – their first major title and an astonishing run through the Lower Bracket. But some more teams surprised as well.
OG wins the Frankfurt Major
OG beating Evil Geniuses and Team Secret – well, few people would have anticipated that outcome after the newly formed team was sent to the Lower Bracket of their first major tournament by Vega Squadron early. But overall, the triumph of BigDaddy and his teammates isn’t even that big of a surprise. When we asked you could potentially win the Frankfurt Major, 55 percent of you named OG – the fourth best score after Team Secret, Evil Geniuses and Vici Gaming.
The first major title will put OG at least on rank 18 in the December World Ranking, but they can improve a lot with a good performance at the ASUS ROG Dreamleague next weekend.
Team Secret shouldn’t car too much about their loss
1 – 2 – 1 – 1 – 2 – these are the final ranks of Team Secret in their last five tournaments. They won the WCA Qualifiers, MLG World Finals and Nanyang Championships, but lost to underdogs in both ESL New York and Frankfurt Major. In the US, Vega Squadron beat the best team in the world, now OG did the same. That’s annoying, because Puppey and his new team should usually beat these teams, but it’s no need to worry.
Unknown.xiu is the biggest surprise
A peruvian team even attending the LAN Finals of the Frankfurt Major is a big surprise in itself. But [unknown.xiu] even beating Newbee in the Lower Bracket and coming out as ninth overall is totally unexpected. It was the best tournament in the history of the team. Unfortunately they won’t repeat it any time soon because the Peruvians lost in every major qualifier this fall so far.
TongFu is the biggest disappointment
The qualifiers for the Frankfurt Major feel like ages ago, but we shouldn’t forget about some of the teams that didn’t even make it close to Frankfurt: TongFu is probably the biggest disappointment, finishing 42th overall after an early defeat by Wings Gaming and the FTD club B. Natus Vincere and the CIS Rejects as 33th also didn’t live up to the expectations as well as Team Liquid who finished as 21st.
