By beating Fnatic, MVP Phoenix has set a milestone: No other team from the Southeastasian region (SEA) has reached the top4 of a Valve-event since 2013. And they could even set a new record now.
How good to do you remember The International 2013? Back then when Alliance simply dominated the tournament, another remarkable thing happened. For the last time, a team from the southeastasian region (SEA) finished the tournament amongst the four best teams.
It was Orange Esports, who played the best tournament of their team history. Natus Vincere sent them to the Lower Bracket early but Orange fought back until the Lower Bracket Final got lost to Na’Vi again.
MVP Phoenix on the heels of Orange Esports
Now, MVP Phoenix is the first team to make it so far in a Valve-event again. The Koreans (of course the first korean team to get so far) surprised most of the commentators and spectators at the Shanghai Major recently, beating teams like Team Secret, LGD Gaming and [ehome.cn].
In the Lower Bracket Round 4 they had a special encounter: Facing Fnatic they also faced parts of the famous team of Orange eSports from 2013: Mushi, Ohaiyo and Net were among the ones that made the third place at The International 2013. So if MVP makes it to the Grand Finals in Shanghai, they would even set a new record for the SEA-region.
There is another great team from SEA who made top3 at an International
By the way, Orange Esports which existed from 2011 to 2014 in Dota 2, won 14 tournaments in their history. This is the fifth most of all teams in the history of Dota 2 and more than Team Secret or LGD Gaming have won so far.
