Mun ‚MMA‘ Seong Won has risen to become the toughest challenger of Choi ‚Bomber‘ Ji Sung for the leading spot in the World Ranking. But for now, Bomber defends his rank for the third time in a row.
December was a quiet month tournament-wise and so [mma] is the only one to create movement at the top of the World Ranking. The Terran won one of the few important tournament this month – Fragbite Masters Season 3 – leaving a surprising [gungfubanda] and higher-ranked players like [stardust] and [san] behind.
[sos] wins his first tournament since March
[bomber] however stays at the very top despite having a very successful month: He dropped out as third at IEM San Jose and ninth at the KungFu Cup. Thus the margin to [mma] became much smaller, but also to [hyun] and [zest] who now occupy ranks three and four.
[sos] won the most important tournament in December, the Hot6ix Cup. It was his first championship since the IEM World Championship in March. Consequently, he improved by three ranks to rank 13, pushing [soo] and [innovation] aside.
[snute] is the best foreigner since September 2013
But it was also a good month for foreigners. Despite [gungfubanda]s mentioned success at the Fragbite Masters, [snute] gained another rank and is now 15th which is the best rank of a foreigner since [stephano] in September 2013. Also, chinese star [jim] won both National Electronic Sports Open 2014 and G-League 2014 this month and thus improved by eight ranks to number 26.
On side notes: [marineking] is back into the best 100 players, [gumiho] is close to this and [skyhigh] improved 535 ranks due to his surprising third place at the Hot6ix Cup.
