Best european Starcraft players of 2014

How one player dominated the european Starcraft scene this year

Jens ‚Snute‘ Aasgaard was nominated for the best foreigner in Starcraft 2 this year by us last week, so it comes to no surprise that he is the best european player as well – but the rest is surprisingly even.

Best european Starcraft players of 2014

1. [snute]

[snute] is by far the best european player of the year. This has somehow to do with his activity. He played more than 30 tournaments in 2014 of which his best were the SeatStory Cup which he won against [hyun] in March and a second place at the World E-sport Championships in September when he lost the final to [jaedong]. Besides that he was the best player of NationWars II.

2. [bunny]

[bunny] was the first foreigner to win a masters-tournament (i.e. more than $25.000 prize pool) for two years when he succeeded at Gfinity G3 in August. Besides that he was fifth at WCS Europe in October and in the round of 16 in the same series in April.

3. [vortix]

Vortix dropped a few ranks in the World Ranking this year. The one mighty spanish has lost some of his skills. However he was in the playoffs of WCS Europe twice this year and won the Vasacast Invitational in March.

4. [dayshi]

For about a year, [dayshi] improves steadily so now wonder he is on the top of his career at the moment – rank 40 in the World Ranking. He was third of HomeStory Cup IX in June, beating [bomber] in the playoffs. He also reached the round of 16 of WCS Europe twice and won the french Underdogs league three times.

5. [welmu]

[welmu] is the only foreigner besides [vortix] who was twice in the playoffs of WCS Europe this year. Besides that he only had marginal success like winning the finnish Assembly Summer LAN.

6. [lilbow]

When 2014 started, [lilbow] was on rank 529 of the World Ranking – now he is 62th. This shows just how much the French has improved. Just like [dayshi] he won the Underdogs league thrice, the Francophone Championship in March and the „Foreigner Fun“ in October – he also was in the round of 32 of WCS Europe once.

7. [happy1]

The best russian player has lost 15 ranks in the World Ranking this year but he is still one of the best Europeans out there. In the recent WCS Europe he made it to the playoffs after dropping out in the round of 32 twice before. He was also fifth at DreamHack Moscow which made him the second best foreigner in this tournament.

8. [tlo]

Just like [happy1] [tlo] has lost a bit of his swing, but stay in this list anyhow. The german had to strong seasons of WCS Europe in which he reached the round of 16 and was fourth of IEM Sao Paulo in February.

9. [mana]

After descending to rank 106 in the World Ranking [mana] came back this year with two seaons of WCS where he almost made it to the playoffs if he hadn’t lost the deciding matches against [mma] and [golden] by 1:2. When BaseTradeTV asked „Who’s the Best European“, [mana] won the tournament in September – but [snute] and [bunny] were both missing.

10. [nerchio]

In 2012, [nerchio] was among the 20 best players of the world, now he is down to rank 54 – but still the 10th best European this year. He dropped out in the round of 16 of WCS Europe twice and was the third best player of NationWars II where no Koreans attended.
