Patrick 'Bunny' Brix

Bunny is the first foreigner to win a big tournament since 2012

It might seem unreal but Patrick ‚Bunny‘ Brix really won the Gfinity G3 yesterday – as a foreigner. The last non-Korean to win such a precious tournament was Jens ‚Snute‘ Aasgaard at the HomeStory Cup VI. It was in December 2012.

Winning the Gfinity G3 is not only [bunny]s biggest success of his career but also something historical. For 20 months, Koreans had won all the tournaments with more than $25.000 prize money that at least one of them participated in – and there have been a lot.

But [bunny] beat them: In the group stage he eliminated [stardust] by 2:0, who is the defending champion of WCS Europe and in the final it was [hyun], a top 10 player of the World Ranking who go defeated by the Danish.

The success earns him 1.600 ranking points which by now would boost him from rank 63 to 41 and almost double his point count. Runner-up [hyun] receives 800 points which would be enough to surpass [maru] and [mma] and claim rank 8 – but we still got a whole month ahead of us.

The lowest ranked participants at Gfinity G3 were [demuslim] (#115) and [pig] (#121). Both collected a few points to get nearer to the top 100. [demuslim] has not been there this year and [pig] was never part of the best 100 players of the world ever before, so that might change.

Snute was the last foreigner to win a big tournament

As for the history part of Gfinity G3 – the last foreigner to win such a big tournament was [snute] at HomeStory Cup VI in December 2012. Back then the Norwegian was ranked about as high as [bunny] is now (#58) and the success made him rise into the top 40 of the world – where he still is now. So [bunny] may have a good future ahead of him.
