It’s Byun ‚Byun‘ Hyun Woo in the Starcraft 2 World Ranking and then… nothing else. The Korean Terran is by far the best player in the world.
[byun] leads the Starcraft 2 World Ranking for the third consecutive month – and it’s getting ridiculous. The 23-year-old Korean has a lead of more than 9,000 ranking points to the second placed [snute]. To put that in perspective: Snute could win the WCS right now and it wouldn’t change a thing.
Four foreigners in the top10 of the Starcraft 2 World Ranking
But Byun earned his place and the amazing gap to the rest of the Starcraft 2 world. He won 18 (!) tourmaments in the past twelve months. And while there is a significant number of low-level-competitions counted here, he also won global tournaments like the GSL Season 2 of 2016, the WCS Global Finals and most recently the World Cyber Arena.
Encouraging for all non-Korean-fans is the fact though that [snute] keeps rank 2 while [nerchio] improves to rank 3 this month and [neeb] to rank 5. With [showtime] on rank 8 we still got four foreigners among the best ten players in the world. Meanwhile [kelazhur] (#14) and [scarlett] (#15) work their way up in the Starcraft 2 World Ranking.
Polt becomes the oldest player in the top10 ever
Whoever likes korean players and terrans especially will be pleased to read that [ty] is one of the biggest winners of this month. The 22-year-old won the World Electronic Sports Games and subsequently improved by ten ranks to rank 6 – which is the highest rank he has ever had in the World Ranking in five years. [maru], runner-up behind TY, improved by 17 ranks to the 21st place in the World Ranking. For him that’s the best rank in ten months.
[polt] set a new record by the way. With 28 years and 213 days old and currently rank 7, he is the oldest player that has ever been in the top10 of the Starcraft 2 World Ranking. He beats [bomber] who was almost a year younger the last time he was up so high. Snute is the fifth oldest player ever in the top10 right now with 26 years and 188 days.
With no global tournaments announced for February, not much is expected to change in the next World Ranking. But in March thinks will get interesting when ESL invites 16 players to the IEM World Championships in Katowice again and GSL Season 1 closes.
