Don’t call it a comeback: Alliance is the big winner in the Dota 2 Team World Ranking of January, re-entering the top10 for the first time since June. It was a good month for russian teams too.
[team secret] leads the first Dota 2 Team World Ranking of 2016, even though they had a mediocre month. [puppey]s team just finished 30th at The Summit and 9th at the World Cyber Arena. But after their blasting fall season one might allow them a little break from all their success.
Russian teams rise in the Dota 2 Team World Ranking
[team empire] is the new one on Secrets heels. The russians won the Game Show Global eSports Cup Season 1 and thus passed [evil geniuses] in the World Ranking. Another russian team also climbed: [virtus.pro] passed [vici gaming] and is the fifth best team in the world now. The team of [dkphobos] was second at The Summit and won the Dota 2 Champions League Christmas Charity Magic.
All eyes were on [alliance] this month though: The Swedes won the World Cyber Arena. It’s their first major title since June when they won the ASUS ROG Dreamleague. This makes it a bit surprising but the lineup is fit for world class competition without a doubt. Since [egm] returned to Alliance in early December, the roster is the same as it was in their best days in 2013 and 2014.
OG and Team Liquid on the way to world class
If you look a bit past the ten best teams in the world right now, you will notice some more upcoming squads: Frankfurt Major champion [og] is 12th now, slowly making its way into the top10. [team liquid] jumped 21 ranks to 16 after winning The Defense Season 5. [4 clover & lepricon] is now on rank 19 due to their second place at the Game Show Global eSports Cup Season 1, but they lost EGM right after that – so maybe they won’t stay that high for long.
Two chinese teams caused some uproar as well: [wings gaming], surprisingly 4th at the WCA, jumped 37 ranks to rank 64 and [ftd club a] is 94th now (+63 ranks) after finishing the Game Show Global eSports Cup Season 1 as the seventh best team. European teams [stark esports] (Rank 77, +59), [team alternate] (Rank 73, +36) and the south american [elite wolves] (Rank 89, +78) also left their marks in the Dota 2 Team World Ranking.
